Neurology/Sleep Medicine
A neurologist specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of all types of disease or impaired function of the brain, spinal cord, peripheral nerves, muscles, and autonomic nervous system, as well as the blood vessels that relate to these structures. Conditions include stroke, cerebral vascular disease, headaches, memory loss, multiple sclerosis, seizures, Parkinson’s disease, and movement disorders.
Neurologists also specialize in the diagnosis and management of sleep-related clinical conditions. This includes the clinical assessment, polysomnographic evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders including insomnias, disorders of excessive sleepiness (e.g., narcolepsy), sleep-related breathing disorders (such as obstructive sleep apnea), and other conditions pertaining to the sleep-wake cycle.
